Christmas

count-down to Christmas #5

The only gift is a portion of thyself.” __Ralph Waldo Emerson

Last night we shared a Holiday meal with family and friends, something we haven’t done often since we moved into the Cottage back in ’96.

“That’s been awhile,” you may say.

True enough, but there are reasons…or rather there were circumstances that I thought were reasons.

♥ The cottage is very small – there is no room to entertain here.

♥ When we moved out of the “big house” I gave away all / most of my china, crystal, linens and silver; the things required for entertaining the way I believed it should be done.

♥ All of our biological family lives hundreds and hundreds of miles away.

♥ A blended, extended family was not something we were ever able to accomplish, anyway.

♥ Friends …? Well, we just didn’t bother to make or keep any!

Lately all of that has become unimportant!

While learning to be content in the Cottage I have learned some important things.

♥ Entertaining is simply a matter of sharing the blessings we have been given with the people God puts in our path

♥ Food tastes the same when eaten off a paper plate as it does served on fine china.

♥ Family is more about loving acceptance than it is about blood. Blood may be thicker than water if you’re part of the world, but brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers IN Christ are truly our family according to Jesus. Mark 3:33

♥ To have a friend, I must first be a friend.

Yes, Dear Hearts, this Christmas bears evidence of lessons learned about contentment and walking in “the way of Peace”

Look deep into my heart, God,
and find out everything
I am thinking.
Don’t let me follow evil ways,
but lead me in the way
that time has proven true.
__Psalm 139:23-23 CEV

Truly, Christmas is about giving, and the only worthwhile gift is a portion of yourself for we are blessed to be a blessing.

Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. __1 Thess. 5:16-18
