,,,it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Hebrews 11.6 NLT
Lately the question of Christianity mixed with New Age thinking has reared it’s ugly head. It first came up in the Bible Study group I lead on Wednesday evenings, then in other ‘church related’ groups attended by people I know personally. Never one to back down from sharing my opinion on what God’s Word says, I launched into my interpretation of the scriptures. Now I won’t say the ensuing conversations have been debates–but they’ve come close! I’m learning that there are very different views in Christian circles when it comes to things like yoga, meditation and so on..
A few days ago I was asked, “Is this ‘spiritual yoga’in line with Christianity, or does it promote an alternate spiritual focus?”
That question sent me on a fact finding mission. “What is New Age thinking?” I Googled it!
Thousands of hits!
Some on the right, some on the left. Dos! Don’ts! And, unfortunately, “Why nots?”

My personal position (pun intended) is DON’T.
Don’t try mixing your faith in Christ with positions devoted to Hindu gods!
I was particularly taken with one quote I found online:
“Adding Christ into the equation does not make the pursuit of self-knowledge in ‘Holy Yoga’ any more of a Christian practice than adding sprouts to a greasy hamburger makes it health food.”
The entire question has given me enough angst that I have requested an audience with our Pastor in order to figure out if my position is in line with his. I’ll let you know how that turns out.
In the meantime, please, let me know, in the comments below, what your thoughts on the subject are. I really am interested…
