Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!
5:20-21
Awhile back God gave me an acronym for EVIL.
- E – egocentric: Limited to or caring only about yourself and your own needs.
- V – vulgar and violent: Lacking refinement, cultivation or taste, and effected by force or injury rather than natural causes.
- I – immoral: Not adhering to ethical or moral principles.
- L – lustful: Driven by lust; preoccupied with or exhibiting lustful desires.
This is not new information. Apostle Paul warned Timothy of Godlessness in the Last Days:
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of stress. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, inhuman, implacable, slanderers, profligates, fierce, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding the form of religion but denying the power of it. Avoid such people.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
For those of us who love the Lord Jesus watching the world speeding toward hell, laughing, and believing there will be no consequences is heart breaking. It has always been so…Jesus wept when he saw the evil of His day.
So….? What can we do? We can do what Paul instructed his disciple Timothy to do:
But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are able to instruct you for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Tim. 3:14-17
As lovers of God and disciples of Christ, we can renew our minds to God’s ways, turning away from the darkness and evil in this world and continue in what we have learned and firmly believe, because ALL SCRIPTURE IS INSPIRED BY GOD AND PROFITABLE FOR TRAINING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS
