Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track. Don’t assume that you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil! Your body will glow with health, your very bones will vibrate with life! Honor God with everything you own; give him the first and the best. Your barns will burst, your wine vats will brim over. But don’t, dear friend, resent God’s discipline; don’t sulk under his loving correction. It’s the child he loves that God corrects; a father’s delight is behind all this.

Proverbs 3:5-12 The Message Bible

One of the most obstinate traits in my old, selfish human, nature is my tendency to assume stuff; to try figuring everything out by and for myself.

My SELF – is my biggest problem.

Self-occupation (positive or negative) holds me captive and refuses to allow God to keep me on track.  Assuming to know what’s going on in God’s plan is the height of self-occupation! How quickly we humans can slip from trust to doubt; from “I believe,” to “help my unbelief.”

In church yesterday we heard, “Struggle is not a bad thing.  We have a God who has a plan for us.  He put us here and he  holds us in the palm of his hand. Over and over God’s Word tells us ‘stand still and see the salvation of the Lord,’ yet we struggle against his guidance and doubt his promises. The “self-life” does not have dominion over you. If you are in Christ, you are a new creation.”

Thank you Lord. I needed to hear this message right now. Help me to put aside ALL assumptions and simply trust you.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
