obey? no…love

God’s Word often speaks of obedience…

Jesus said, “I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep (obey) my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done–kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his  love.”
John 15:9-10 The Message Bible

God often speaks of obedience in His Word, but too often we make it a hard thing, because of our former life, our old way of thinking and understanding.

To obey is to submit to the Spirit of Christ. To obey is to trust in and rely on the Spirit of Grace to guide and direct every day. To obey is to LOVE.

Yes love…for love IS the fulfillment of all the law.¹

We must see this – God loved the world so much he sent his only Son.² Jesus urged us to make ourselves at home in the Father’s love.³  This love is both salvation and truth.

No one comes to the Father except by this love.

No one obeys God except by this love. Obedience is not out of fear. Obedience is not out of obligation. Obedience is out of LOVE.

We love because he first loved us.  To focus on Christ is to love Him—not to fear Him or feel obligated to Him for all He does for us.  To focus on Christ fulfills ALL the commands!
