Well…I’ve just spent the past two days doing this “Contentment Cottage Blog” over.

Again!

You won’t notice much on the surface. It’s all in the coding.  If you don’t know what that means, right click on the page and ‘view the source’ code. Not sure how that is gonna translate to your ‘smart phone’ but on a laptop, table or PC you will be able to see what your laptop, table or PC sees.  ?  Did that make any sense?  Maybe not.

At any rate, Monday morning, while checking comments and other ‘behind-the-scenes’ stuff, an error message popped up letting me know that my site template was broken or missing. That is so not good.

The good news is, almost everything that was okay is still okay. The bad news is, I’ve had to dig a lot of things out of the archives in order to restore order and harmony. Isn’t that just the way it goes?

So…while rummaging through the archives I found some stuff that goes way back to the early years of nanaellen.com.  In the early years website building was not only about learning the coding language — HTML or something similar — it was also about bandwidth and connection speed.  Graphics had –had– to be small and in either .gif or .jpg format. All in all, the learning curve was steep, constantly changing, and ever so challenging.  I loved it. I still do, but I gave up trying to keep up with the changes in the coding language at about HTML version 5. Then, with the advent of the ‘smart phone’ all bets were off. Word Press became my crutch and for now it works perfectly. That is until something either breaks or gets hacked.  Hacked, unfortunately is a real possibility, although for the life of me I can’t figure out why anyone would want to hack the blog of a little old lady from California?

Nostalgia is an interesting thing. I found some stuff in the archives that haven’t been online since the last century! Here are a few of my favorites.

Twenty years online is a long time. There’s been a lot of water under the bridge in that time. Would I change it? No way. Would I do it again? …humm. You know how we all wish we could have a do over, but know what we know now?  Would I do it all again? Probably.

But for today, CCB is back online and it looks like it’s supposed to again. So… all’s well that ends well.

see ya soon
